Aims of Stepping Stones

  • to provide an opportunity to meet others in the same situation
  • to share the experience of motherhood
  • to discuss how motherhood affects us as individuals
  • to explore ways of “surviving” motherhood
  • to form a support network with other women at a similar life-stage
  • to find ways of coping with difficult feelings
  • to explore positive models of parenting
  • to encourage women to value their role as a mother
  • to enable women to pro-actively look after their own mental health and well-being, thus providing a stable base and positive role-model for their children

6 Stepping Stones sessions are run each year; 3 in Steyning and 3 in Storrington. Each group meets for 6 weeks.

Stepping Stones is expanding and groups are now running in Pulborough and Henfield with the possibility of other venues soon becoming available. Contact Lynn to see if a group is running near you.

Following on from the continuing success of the Stepping Stones programme, Lynn Bertram has now produced a book:

‘Supporting Postnatal Women into Motherhood; a guide to therapeutic groupwork for health professionals.’
    (Radcliffe Publishing Ltd. / ISBN-13: 978 185775 733 0)

It is hoped that others will use this book to develop similar groups so that other women and their families will benefit from this type of support in other areas.
